The lowland nyala (Tragelaphus angasii) is a spiral-horned antelope native to South Africa. Males, like this one, are usually about three and a half feet tall and four and a half to six feet long. Females, which look far different, are usually under three feet in height and far lighter, typically 120-150 pounds compared to the male’s 215-275 pounds. Both have a lifespan of about 19 years.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists them as of least concern of extinction.
Our taxidermy of this beautiful animal was acquired – along with a Zebra skull, vintage pith helmet, and safari shirt – directly from the Straw estate, having been displayed in the hunter’s home until his death.
