During WWII, in the push to use science to help win the war, the United States and other countries discovered lots of new materials and manufacturing methods, and as a result the years following the War had us using new materials for many purposes. Making home furniture out of fiberglass (developed by the US Army) is one of the uses that hasn’t stuck around as commonplace in homes into present day – besides modern reproductions. These chairs in our store are vintage, though, featuring the classic and much sought-after curved design. Take a seat, they are incredibly comfortable!

The most famous fiberglass chair is the Eames chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller, which is displayed in the Museum of Modern Art and for sale at Then Is Now, currently in the room we named The Quest.
