Farrah Fawcett is famous for her role in Charlie’s Angels. Her photo from 1976 – known as ‘The Red Swimsuit Photo’ and shot by Bruce McBroom – is the highest-selling poster of all time. It sold six million copies the first year and twelve million overall.
The poster is culturally significant enough to have a dedicated Wikipedia article (about the poster specifically, not the photograph). Among the many reasons for its importance is the shift in control of her image Farrah took that was unheard of at the time and paved the way for later female stars. She handpicked the image herself.
